City of Murfreesboro hiring Traffic Engineer

Essential Functions:

Reviews all site plans and subdivision plans for compliance with City Streets and Subdivision Standards including review of roadway designs and traffic technical submittals from consulting engineers.

Initiates, directs, and applies the results of studies and program reviews in order to evaluate existing and projected transportation systems, traffic impacts of proposed developments and proposed remedial treatments at problem locations.

Coordinates Traffic Engineering projects and construction projects involving other City departments and outside agencies.

Performs Traffic Impact Studies to determine impact to street system from development or roadway modifications.

Updates the technical specifications and typical standards for the City Street and Subdivision Regulations relevant to all traffic related issues.

Performs signal system timing pattern development and modification for local intersections and for the interconnected systems.

Performs Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) design work utilizing AutoCAD and MicroStation for the City designed engineering projects.

Works with other City Officials on special projects.

Collects and researches information and data, and prepares reports and recommendations.

Attends and participates in meetings, including those scheduled after normal working hours as directed.

Receives, analyzes and responds to all citizens and council request and makes sound recommendations related to all traffic-related issues.

Compiles and analyzes engineering data and prepares conclusions and recommendations.

Develops preliminary engineering treatments to determine construction feasibility and estimated cost.

Additional Duties:
Manages Traffic Signal Projects efficiently.

Investigates traffic problems and recommends methods of improve traffic flow and safety.

Provides input for the development and maintenance of traffic management policies and procedures.

Performs related work as assigned


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering.
Requires over 2 years of previous related experience, traffic engineering experience preferred.

Knowledge and ability to use the following engineering computer software programs (as a minimum):  Autodesk AutoCAD; Bentley MicroStation CAD; ArcView GIS; Synchro Trafficware and McTrans Highway Capacity (HCM).

Special Certifications and Licenses:
Registered as Professional Engineer in the State of Tennessee, or has the ability within twelve (12) months to obtain registration.

Valid driver’s license.
