Staff Transportation Engineer for Knox County, TN

The purpose of this classification is to perform technical and administrative work associated with the transportation and traffic engineering functions of the Department of Engineering and Public Works. Duties include: plans review for both public and private development; review of traffic impact studies; preparing and/or reviewing designs for installation of traffic control devices and transportation improvements; reviewing bridge designs; reviewing the need for guardrail installation; and conducting traffic analyses and studies in support of field visits.

Minimum training and qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering from an ABET accredited university.  The incumbent will be expected to participate in professional organizations and engage in continuing education.  A Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required upon hire, but will be required within three (3) years of hire.  An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate is required to be hired as well as a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Salary $57,752.50 annually

2017 Traffic Bowl Winners

Congratulations to the University of Tennessee for winning this year’s traffic bowl at the winter meeting in Cookeville. It was a great competition with four schools represented: the University of Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State University and the University of Memphis. UT Knoxville will represent TSITE at the Southern District (SDITE) 2017 Annual Meeting on March 26-29, 2017 in Columbia, South Carolina.

TSITE Tri-Cities branch meeting March 21st

Parking Info: Meeting attendees must park in one of the purple zones shown on the Campus Map and display the temporary Parking Permit on their dashboard. Drivers failing to do so may receive a parking ticket. Meeting attendees can then ride the shuttle to the Roaden University Center (RUC) or walk to the RUC (about a 10-minute walk).
