Essential Functions:

Reviews all site plans and subdivision plans for compliance with City Streets and Subdivision Standards including review of roadway designs and traffic technical submittals from consulting engineers.

Initiates, directs, and applies the results of studies and program reviews in order to evaluate existing and projected transportation systems, traffic impacts of proposed developments and proposed remedial treatments at problem locations.

Coordinates Traffic Engineering projects and construction projects involving other City departments and outside agencies.

Performs Traffic Impact Studies to determine impact to street system from development or roadway modifications.

Updates the technical specifications and typical standards for the City Street and Subdivision Regulations relevant to all traffic related issues.

Performs signal system timing pattern development and modification for local intersections and for the interconnected systems.

Performs Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) design work utilizing AutoCAD and MicroStation for the City designed engineering projects.

Works with other City Officials on special projects.

Collects and researches information and data, and prepares reports and recommendations.

Attends and participates in meetings, including those scheduled after normal working hours as directed.

Receives, analyzes and responds to all citizens and council request and makes sound recommendations related to all traffic-related issues.

Compiles and analyzes engineering data and prepares conclusions and recommendations.

Develops preliminary engineering treatments to determine construction feasibility and estimated cost.

Additional Duties:
Manages Traffic Signal Projects efficiently.

Investigates traffic problems and recommends methods of improve traffic flow and safety.

Provides input for the development and maintenance of traffic management policies and procedures.

Performs related work as assigned

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering.
Requires over 2 years of previous related experience, traffic engineering experience preferred.

Knowledge and ability to use the following engineering computer software programs (as a minimum):  Autodesk AutoCAD; Bentley MicroStation CAD; ArcView GIS; Synchro Trafficware and McTrans Highway Capacity (HCM).

Special Certifications and Licenses:
Registered as Professional Engineer in the State of Tennessee, or has the ability within twelve (12) months to obtain registration.

Valid driver’s license.

Location: Intelight, Inc. – Atlanta, GA

Intelight, Inc. is seeking an experienced Traffic Signal Engineer to work in our Atlanta office under a Professional Engineering/Professional Traffic Operations Engineer.  The Desirable candidate has experience with, or a basic knowledge of traffic signal timing optimization and basic traffic signal controller parameters.  At a minimum, the candidate must have:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • Four to seven (4-7) years of related experience
  • Minimum registered Engineer in Training (EIT)
  • Have a PE or be able to obtain a PE within the first year
  • Be willing to work in the Atlanta office

Additional desired skills include excellent verbal and written communication skills, direct experience working with field deployed traffic signal controllers and/or systems; general knowledge of terminology, concepts, and general practices associated with signal timing operations. IMSA certifications are a plus.

As a member of our services team, the Traffic Signal Engineer will provide support on the Statewide Signal Upgrade contract, signal timing projects, and other services tasks to support customers. Duties will include supporting coordination/management of project activities, modeling/producing/optimizing signal timings, signal timing troubleshooting, signal timing database conversions, training for agencies, database testing, signal timing services, etc. The position may require 25% out of town travel, mostly within Georgia.
